With Groupe Novelty’s expertise, WorldSkills 2024 successfully celebrated global youth talent
Groupe Novelty, a leader in event production and technical services, managed the grand opening and closing ceremonies of the 47th WorldSkills competition in Lyon, France. This event brought together nearly 1400 young competitors from 66 countries, aiming to inspire young people through excellence in vocational skills.
Groupe Novelty's companies, Novelty Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Novelty Aura) and Alabama Média, handled all technical requirements for the opening ceremony at LDLC Arena and the closing ceremony at Groupama Stadium. Novelty Aura set up staging, audio, and lighting, while Alabama Média managed video production.
The opening event posed significant challenges. “Beyond the scale of such an event, whose logistical demands were huge, we faced exceptionally tight time constraints,” said Arnaud Douchet, director of Novelty Aura.
To manage these demands, Novelty Aura deployed nearly 100 speakers for sound reinforcement and over 330 lighting fixtures from Chauvet, Claypaky, Minuit Une, and Robe to enhance the arena’s existing system. Alabama Média oversaw installation of video and broadcasting equipment, including the fitting of a semi-transparent 6×3.5m LED screen as a backdrop for the main stage.
Working with Novelty Aura and Alabama Média, Concept K managed the artistic and technical direction for the closing ceremony. Supported by sister companies Dushow and Magnum, Novelty Aura and Alabama Média equipped the vast venue with L-Acoustics speakers, Robe lighting fixtures and Absen LED screens to accommodate 25,000 spectators.
“We were thrilled to bring our teams together for this shared project, demonstrating that Groupe Novelty’s local companies are more than capable of hosting international delegations,” said Douchet. “While Paris was buzzing with the Olympics, Lyon also shone on the international stage with the ‘Skills Olympics’.”
