New exhibits at the Niagara Parks Power Station are harnessing 1 Sound technology to engage audiences
Â
The Niagara Parks Power Station in Niagara Falls, Ontario, has evolved from an industrial powerhouse to an immersive museum. As part of this transformation, two new exhibits, the Tesla Coil Exhibit and the Niagara Parks Tunnel, were introduced, both of which use 1 Sound loudspeakers.
Â
The new exhibits needed an audio solution to enhance the experience, support live demonstrations and ensure amplification was clear. The 1 Sound Tower LCC44 loudspeaker and Tower LF44 low-frequency extension column are examples of technology selected for this task.
Â
As a former power plant, the Niagara Parks Power Station Museum faced unique acoustical challenges in its vast, industrial space. To overcome these challenges, Branch AV was contracted to design and install a high-performance audio system for both exhibits.
Tesla Coil Exhibit: Feedback-free audio
For the Tesla Coil Exhibit, the audio solution needed to support hourly presentations, video projections, music playback and private events.
The setup involved 1 Sound Tower LCC44 as the primary left and right speakers with two Tower LF44 columns. This provided full-range, high-fidelity sound, perfect for the museum's multi-purpose needs.
The LCC44 speakers' cardioid properties ensured that sound did not bleed into other exhibit areas. Reverberations off the metal alternator structure were also minimised with this product. Additionally, the true line array design of the LCC44 prevented feedback, helping presenters walk directly in front of the speakers without issue.
Alongside 1 Sound technology, a Shure Beta 58A wireless microphone was used by the museum staff for the presentations. This microphone helped foster clear communication with visitors even when there may be louder ambient room noise.
Keeping exhibit’s aesthetic in mind, custom mounts by Branch AV and the compact design of the LCC44 allowed for the loudspeakers to be hidden in plain sight.
Niagara Parks Tunnel Exhibit: Weather-resistant sound
For the Tunnel Exhibit, located in a carved-out space beneath Niagara Falls, the audio design needed to overcome the constant exposure to moisture. 1 Sound IP55-rated speakers, including the LCC44 towers and WSUB45 subwoofers, were the perfect fit for this wet environment.
The long-throw capability of the Tower Series minimised the number of loudspeakers required while ensuring immersive sound throughout the tunnel. Additionally, the WSUB45 subwoofers delivered a low-end response, further enhancing the sensory experience for visitors travelling through the tunnel.
Effortless setup and audio with 1 Sound
The audio system was praised for its ease of use, as well as its performance. The simplicity of the setup meant that the museum staff could operate the system easily.
The system’s versatility and user-friendly design have made it a standout solution for any museum or exhibition space looking to elevate its audio experience.
1 Sound’s technology is not only benefitting museum environments but also other performance venues, like The Juilliard School.
