Shure technology delivered seamless audio at the 97th Academy Awards, from live performances to broadcast dialogue
The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood was filled with audio engineers and broadcast professionals all using Shure technology to deliver pristine sound at the 97th Academy Awards. Shure’s innovative solutions helped to set the gold standard for live television broadcasting at the Oscars.
A large bulk of the Shure gear lineup included Axient Digital wireless systems, which also took centre stage at the 67th Grammys in February 2025. Artists like Doja Cat also. exhibited vast vocal abilities with a Nexadyne microphone.
Shure equipment wasn’t only used for vocal performances on the night; it also helped deliver live dialogue during the show. Paul Sandweiss, the audio engineer and broadcast mixer for the Oscars, described how different gear was used to achieve the perfect show.
“We used Shure’s TwinPlex lavalier microphones on all the talent as needed for dialogue that seamlessly integrates into the broadcast,” Sandweiss commented. “For the in-house audience, we used Q5X PlayerMic Radio transmitters and Axient Digital receivers.”
A staggering number of Shure microphones and RF antennae were provided by Soundtronics for the four-hour event. This included ten channels of PSM 1000 Advanced In-Ear Personal Monitoring Systems and six ADX3 Axient Digital Plug-On Transmitter with ShowLink for the podiums.
Shure equipment helped to further the legacy of the Oscars, while showing the increasing sophistication of live broadcasts. Sandweiss reiterated this sentiment, saying, “Here’s to another year of live broadcast shows, where sound quality and reliability go hand in hand to make our lives that much easier.”
The 97th Academy Awards isn't the only celebration that Shure is part of this year, with 2025 marking their 100th anniversary. Learn more about what this means for the company in this article.
